Deep Fusion: Creating Space for Storytelling

Stories have always mattered to us. The way we tell them changes, audience tastes evolve, and the technology behind storytelling keeps moving forward. But one thing seems to stay remarkably consistent: people still love a good story.

We are drawn to ideas that surprise us, perspectives that help us see the world differently, and scenes that stick in our minds long after the credits roll. Whether told through documentaries, entertainment, short-form or long-form content, the appeal is timeless.

Content choice and constant change

The commissioning landscape is changing. That’s not exactly breaking news, but it is worth saying out loud. Expectations around quality remain (rightly) high, while budgets, timelines and production models are being asked to stretch much further than they used to.

Our audiences have changed too. People move easily between platforms and formats, discovering stories in many different ways. They expect choice, flexibility and content that feels worth their time. The challenge for all of us, is that the traditional production pathway is not always the best route for every project.

That doesn’t mean the old model has stopped working entirely. It means it’s no longer the only model. Some stories fit into established structures, while others benefit from an alternative development process, enhanced production methods, or a team willing to think differently about how content is made and delivered.

We see this less as a crisis, and more as an invitation to build something new.

Outliers and Insiders

At Deep Fusion we’ve been thinking about this landscape for a long time. We’ve also been relatively quiet for a while, reflecting on how we wanted to respond to a changing industry. It was important to us, that any new approach protected editorial integrity and judgement, while maintaining the highest standards of production quality.

We have built a model that feels fit for purpose today, while also preparing for what comes next. Since joining John Gore Studios, we’ve been making sure we have the people, partnerships, and capabilities needed to match our ambitions. Deep Fusion has assembled a team with the right mix of industry insiders and outliers. What connects them is a shared belief that creative ambition shouldn’t be limited simply because the systems around it are shifting.

Some members of our team have spent decades working their way through the industry and understand the realities of content production from the inside, both editorially and operationally. Alongside them are people, including our founders, who approach those same challenges from a different perspective. Together, we are comfortable questioning assumptions and exploring alternative methods to solve familiar problems.

Experience brings context. A fresh perspective brings momentum. Deep Fusion sits somewhere between those two viewpoints: close enough to understand what production demands, and curious enough to imagine a different way of delivering it.

Creativity in the Driving Seat

Technology and production workflows are only valuable to us when they support creative work. Their role is not to replace instinct, authorship or editorial judgement. At Deep Fusion, we develop and use proprietary tools to remove unnecessary barriers and create more time and space for the work that only creative people can do. The aim is not to build software for its own sake or to pursue efficiency at the expense of craft, it is to create the conditions in which creative projects can thrive.

Sometimes that means reducing friction in production processes and adapting workflows to open up opportunities that didn’t previously exist. Sometimes it means bringing together a new mix of technology and content. But our principles always remain the same; innovation should bring more possibilities and creative decisions are human decisions.

The Stories Always Come First

What is the best way to bring this idea to life? That’s the question we ask at the start of every project. Sometimes the answer is to develop directly for digital audiences and learn quickly through iteration. Sometimes it is to use technical capabilities that make an idea commercially viable. In many cases, data can help reveal audience behaviours that strengthen creative development.

The important thing is to retain ownership of the creative vision, and build enough flexibility into the process to give ideas the strongest possible chance of succeeding. That’s why Deep Fusion brings together three connected capabilities under one roof. Each serves a different purpose and has its own discipline and expertise.

  • Content - Deep Fusion approaches content production as a studio ecosystem, creating a continuous cycle of experimentation, learning and creativity.

  • AI + VFX - Deep Fusion’s approach to AI and VFX is grounded in trust. Our broadcast-quality work is designed to expand opportunity while protecting authorship and rights.

  • Software - Deep Fusion develops software because production teams deserve tools built around creative reality, enabling smarter and more flexible solutions.

Together, these three areas support storytelling from concept through to delivery, while remaining adaptable to the realities of a changing industry.

We believe some of the most interesting work in the years ahead will come from teams that combine experience and creative instinct, with new technology. There are still important stories waiting to be told. That is the work our team is interested in doing. Collaborating with people who share our excitement for what’s next.

Deep Fusion has emerged from a period of reflection, and is now a creative studio built for the future. A new way of bringing an old art form to life.
